Zhulong Gallery to Close at End of January

The Dragon Street space distinguished itself as a technology-friendly home for new media art.

Zhulong Gallery, the Dragon Street space that distinguished itself as a technology-friendly home for new media art, will close at the end of the month. A Johanna Billing exhibition scheduled to open Jan. 29 has been cancelled, per a press release.

The gallery was open for the better part of two years. The release notes that director Aja Martin will set her “sights on academic pursuits,” but doesn’t elaborate. It’s the latest gallery to shutter on Dragon Street. (Photographs Do Not Bend most recently picked up and moved to a new space on Glass Street.)

The press release is copied below:

January 25, 2016, Dallas, TX – Zhulong Gallery will be closing its doors at the end of January leaving behind a legacy cutting-edge contemporary exhibitions. Director Aja Martin and her team are proud to have shown local art stars alongside internationally recognized artists and thank the Dallas community for its support. “I have been humbled by the outpouring of support from art collectors, colleagues and those new to art over the last two years. It has been an honor to share many wonderful artists and challenging work with the city. As I turn my sights on academic pursuits, I look forward to continued participation in Dallas’s growth as an art destination” says Aja Martin, Zhulong Gallery Director.

I’m Lost Without Your Rhythm, an exhibition of work by artist Johanna Billing, will not open on January 29th. The gallery will be closed on January 31, 2016.

Editor’s note: An updated version of the gallery’s closing statement was added to this post on Jan. 26.
