Denton Singer Kaela Sinclair Strikes Online Gold With Clever Cover Song

Online popularity is just a cellphone, an unplugged cover song, and a BuzzFeed post away.

Denton’s own Kaela Sinclair had the internet going nuts over the weekend with a cellphone-recorded video cover of SOHN’s “Artifice.” The song went viral, as they say (I think people still say that), some time after Sinclair posted it Thursday on Facebook. It has since racked up more than 50,000 views.

The singer-songwriter strips the electro elements of the original song and transforms it into a tuneful little indie pop gem. The Brady Bunch-style video cleverly shows Sinclair performing each part. Sinclair, who we wrote about last June, has a new album due this spring. She opens for Jacob Metcalf at the Kessler on Jan. 22.

Up-and-coming North Texas musicians and savvy digital marketers take note: Online popularity is just a cellphone, a BuzzFeed Community post, and an unplugged cover song away.

Watch Sinclair’s take on “Artifice” below.
