Leon Bridges had a pretty good weekend. First, he put an exclamation point at the tail end of a big year by performing on Saturday Night Live. Then, this morning, the Fort Worth soul singer learned (along with the rest of us) that he was nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Album.
Bridges’ debut, Coming Home, will compete against albums from D’Angelo and the Vanguard, Andra Day, Jazmine Sullivan, and Charlie Wilson. Winners are announced Feb. 16.
Other North Texas artists up for the music industry’s most well-known hardware include the Arlington-based a capella group Pentatonix (for Best Arrangement, Instrumental, or A Capella, a prize they won last year) and the Eagles’ Don Henley, who is nominated for Best American Roots Song.
Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, and The Weeknd led the rest of the pack with nominations in the big categories.
You can check out the full list of Grammy nominees here, and watch Bridges perform “River” and “Smooth Sailin'” on SNL in the videos below.
