FRIDAY

Irrational City at the Bath House Cultural Center — July 3, 7-9 p.m. 521 E. Lawther Dr. Dallas, TX 75218.

There’s really only one thing going on this July 4 weekend, and it is Dwayne Carter’s zany, creepy extravaganza of oddities dedicated to the irrational. Nearly 20 artists and curators contribute work to a group show called “Irrational City,” which is being mounted in conjunction with the Festival of Independent Theaters at the Bath House Cultural Center. For more details, Lauren Smart has a preview of the exhibit over on the Dallas Observer. But by way of highlights, Carter’s large-scale digital prints that reset scenes from Dante’s Divine Comedy in a post-apocalyptic Dallas, and Collette Copeland’s video uses a DADA lens to imagine a lunch between Marcel Duchamp and his alter ego Rose Selavy. And if things are getting senseless, you know that artist Thor Johnson (pictured above) is getting in on the action.
