There's plenty of art to find in the Design District this weekend, plus a show at Barry Whistler, a rooftop screening, and a performance in Klyde Warren Park.

Phantom Eye: Jimmy Baker + Matthew Hillock at Zhulong GalleryJune 25, 6-9 p.m. 1302 Dragon St. Dallas, TX 75207.

With two artists whose work incorporates both new and traditional media, it is no surprise that the question of the image comes to the fore. Baker’s collages layer oil and digital transfers in a way that builds up and complicates an accumulation of images and inferences, while Hillock, working sometimes with animated GIFs, undermines his content and places it on faulty ground.

Place/Non-Place at RE GalleryJune 25, 7-9 p.m. 1717 Gould St. Dallas, TX 75215.

A mix of familiar names – Jeff Baker, Chris Bexar Shelby Cunningham, GAiUR, Debora Hunter, Mark Lamster, Peter Ligon, Paho Mann, Caroline Sharpless, and Allison V. Smith – come together for an exhibition of artists who use painting or photographs to explore relationships in and with space and place.

Alan and Michael Fleming: Gemini at CydoniaJune 26, 6-8 p.m.  167 Payne St. Dallas, TX 75207.

Alan and Michael Fleming: Gemini Performance presented by Cydonia at Klyde Warren Park — June 27, 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. 2012 Woodall Rodgers Freeway, Dallas, TX 75201.

Cydonia continues to expose the area to new and intriguing artists who have never come through this part of the world before. The latest are Alan and Michael Fleming, a duo that has been collaborating on work for a decade. This exhibit will look back on those ten years of collaboration, and it will feature a performance on Saturday in Klyde Warren Park. Go here for a taste of what to expect from the artists’ physical, often whimsical approach to performance installation.

Sunscreen 2 at The Power StationJune 27, 8:30 p.m. 3816 Commerce St, Dallas, TX 75226.

The Power Station is hosting a screening series on their rooftop throughout the summer. The latest brings a trio of films that trace out a common through-line of surrealistic, psychedelic space: Georges Méliès’s Le Voyage dans la Lune (1902), Bruce Conner’s Looking for Mushrooms (1967), and Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell To Earth (1976), which stars David Bowie. If you want to attend, there’s not a lot of space on the rooftop, so get there early and be sure to RSVP: [email protected].

Power Lines at Barry Whistler GalleryJune 27, 6-8 p.m. 2909-B Canton St. Dallas, TX 75226.

After his striking group show featuring three mature abstract painters organized around a theme of Barnett Newman minimalism, Barry Whistler turns the gallery over to three digitally inspired painters who are earlier in their careers. Luke Harnden is a terrific and diverse painter who also helps run the Beefhaus space in Expo Park. Liz Trosper is a UTD-trained artist whose paintings incorporate analog and new media, and Raymont is a RISD-trained, Berlin-based artist who incorporates various mechanical and digital processes into his paintings and drawings.
