“Black Friday” (The Record Lounge): Finding out that “Black Friday” is returning to its old spot (this was formerly the Fallout Lounge) is a dream come true. Or maybe a nightmare come true, as we are dealing with various forms of coldwave, classic industrial and other associated styles. Cygnus will be the guest this evening, and he’ll be joining Keith P, Anthony Social, and Death Church. Finally, some good news. —Christopher Mosley

“Tropic of Sound” (Tate’s): This night is usually only at Windmill Lounge, but now they’ve added Tate’s in Uptown for one of the most easily digestible DJ events, and that’s a compliment. —Christopher Mosley

“Vinyl Fantasy” (Crown and Harp): The selection of cuts spun by DJs Emptycylinder and Handsome Reward at this monthly happening that takes place upstairs at Crown and Harp, are consistently a heady, essential brew of soul, funk, dub, roots and hip hop. This will be the final installment of the summer, so a request for Billy Stewart’s 1966 of Gershwin’s “Summertime” may be in order. —Eric Martinez
35 Denton Pre-sale Party (Hailey’s): The return of 35 Denton next year will be celebrated with a second presale party that will include a day of live music and a dance competition. Keeping with the spirit of the fest’s previous deep lineups, the event will include a full day of Denton bands, many who you may see at the festival’s return in March. The pre-sale party will be headlined by Denton emcee, AV the Great. You may even have the opportunity to win passes to next year’s fest. —Eric Martinez
“King Camelversary” (Club Dada): To celebrate a year of showcasing numerous emerging acts in North Texas, local music promoter King Camel will be throwing an all-day bash at Club Dada on Saturday. A few notable acts include Blackstone Rangers, Hex Cult, Botany, Cutter, and many others. With summer coming to a close, a quick and exciting lesson on local acts is now in session. —Eric Martinez
Cicada Fest: Wiving | Lily Taylor | Deep Throat | Gay C*m Daddies | Westerman & Dodds (Macaroni Island): This house day show will be benefit Cicada Collective’s project NTX-ASN, which works to network and train volunteers to provide transportation, lodging, and doula services for those seeking reproductive and related health services in North Texas. The lineup includes a collection of artists who are premiere figures in the experimental and progressive music scene of North Texas. —Eric Martinez
The Hood Internet | Sober (The Granada): Popular mash-up crew will bring their beats and mixes to Granada Theater on Saturday night. They are the duo who indulge your urges for that R. Kelly and Jens Lekman collaboration you had in college. They make you ponder on after 20 years of activity that perhaps Deerhoof should suddenly make a hip hop record. These are thoughts everyone has had. Anyhow, beats will be plentiful at this one. —Eric Martinez
Note: THRWD will be presenting a free show featuring emerging hip hop artist, Blue, The Misfit, at Sundown at Granada following the Hood Internet show next door at Granada on Saturday night. Hex Cult and Shooknite (of Track Meet) will also be on hand. —Eric Martinez
Froth | Mr. Elevator | Sealion (Double Wide): The local DIY outfit Dallas Distortion Music has teamed up with LA based Lollipop Records for a kaleidoscopic barrage of charming psych rock and power pop. Lose yourself in a drink to the sounds of Froth, whose dreamy textures were recently hand picked by Hedi Slimane to score the Saint Laurent AW14 menswear collection runway show. Local favorites, Sealion, will be an appropriate opener. —Eric Martinez
Freestyle Fellowship (The Crown and Harp): The early 90s West Coast hip hop group consisting of P.E.A.C.E, Self Jupiter, Aceyalone, and Myka9 will be making a rare appearance, along with DJ Kiilu and any one of these artists could headline a show, especially Aceyalone. The group will be joined by a slew of local acts including Grey Matter, Wild Bill, Romio No E, Flotation, Spewcataclism, Molekular, and Muenster.
Also, Year of the Ox will be there which includes the always-welcome skills of Bay Area-native, Tape Mastah Steph.
Update: It turns out that Killu and P.E.A.C.E. couldn’t make it, unfortunately. However, Abstract Rude will be making an appearance at this event booked by Callie Dee, who works for both Right Round Productions as well as Shipping and Receiving.

Minto | Luke Sardello | TX Connect (The Record Lounge): This late entry features a beloved DJ who played a large role in the founding of Down Low Music. I wish we had known about this one sooner, as this lineup looks formidable. —Christopher Mosley
