Three Links proves once again that they can be trusted more than most Deep Ellum establishments to book interesting acts even on a slow day. They know how to pair up certain bands with an awareness of the city’s social climate, day of the week, and local landscape. Case in point, a Tuesday show on an otherwise sleepy night will see Mini Mansions bringing their penchant for gorgeous harmonies and a Shawn Kemp-like ambition for large pop songs in front of the venue’s elaborate backdrop. The band includes Michael Shuman of Queens of the Stone Age, and there is a very specific demo that will be interested in that fact. Catamaran and Things of Earth open.

Up in Denton, Eric “Rick” Guy of Bukkake Moms has put together a lineup that includes a couple of melodic touring acts with abrasive openers. Fayetteville’s Monsterheart and May the Peace of the Sea be with You are unusually poppy and respectively shoegaze-influenced for this lineup, but that sort of mismatch makes for a good show. They will be joined by Gungar, the Hymens, and the aforementioned B Moms.

If you’re still looking for a nightcap after today’s soccer match and live music sounds like a bit much after all the excitement, check out -topic and the indelible Simon Phoenix at “Soundwaves” at Sunset Lounge.

A roundup of residencies—

DJ Blake Ward will be at Sundown at Granada; YeahDef will have a free 80s-themed event at Rubber Gloves; Finally, The newest weekly is Blue, The Misfit and Niro for “Beats and Booze” at Andy’s in Denton, featuring … $1 wells. I can’t even.
