generics by Travis LaMothe at RE Gallery — May 22, 6-8 p.m. 1717 Gould St. Dallas, TX 75215.

LaMothe’s exhibition (which closes this weekend) features stark paintings of cardboard packaging, rendered flat and in featureless white against elegant, monochromatic canvases. These pieces echo the original forms, highlighting a minimal, geometric simplicity while positioning the objects in the liminal terrain between concept and physicality.

Daniel Turner at And Now — May 24, 7-9 p.m. 1415 Beaumont St. Dallas, TX 75215.

James Cope’s And Now brings Daniel Turner to town, an artist pretty much ideally suited to the space that flies in rising art world stars and commissions them to make new work in the foreign space. As Turner told Interview magazine, he is an artist who does a lot with a little. “I was searching, like many artists, for a cheap material to make a large gesture,” Turner explains. “I can fly around the world with a $1.50 bag of steel wool and make an entire exhibition with it.” The results are pieces that erase, smudge, interrupt, or foil environments, inspired, in part, by Turner’s time as a museum security guard when he inadvertently discovered the potency of marks and smudges he made while leaning against gallery walls.

Deep Ellum Windows (Conclusion) at Deep Ellum Windows — May 24, 7-10 p.m. 2604, 2625, 2626, 2656, 2810 Main St. and 2647 Main St. 2625 Main St. Dallas, TX 75226.

The last in a solid run of pop-up exhibitions in Deep Ellum will feature work by Christopher Blay, Sally Glass, Nathan Green, Hannah Hudson, Gregory Ruppe, and H. Schenck.

Primordial Mirror – Video Premiere by Julie Weitz at Ware:wolf:haus — May 24, 7-11 p.m. 425 Bedford St. Dallas, TX 75212.

As with Deep Ellum Windows, Arthur Pena’s Ware:Wolf:Haus is finishing up their spring season with a video by Julie Weitz, accompanied by a live soundtrack (Michael Perkins) and an opening performance (David Karsten Daniels). The description of the video references Dario Argento’s brilliant Suspiria and promises a descent “into a murky abyss to endure a series of transformations” and “physical manifestations of her internal state of mind.” It all sounds pretty dreamy. For a taste, head here.

ICESHELF Smile Tour 2014 at 500x Gallery — May 25, 5-8 p.m. 500 Exposition Ave. Dallas, TX 75226.

ICESHELF is a mobile gallery project organized by SCUBA, a collaborate duo that includes Sante Fe-basted artists Sandra Wang and Crockett Bodelson. Their 22 ft. diesel-powered truck will feature an exhibition of ceramic figures, which chronicles the exploration of the 1914 south polar region by Ernest Shackleton.
