MTV RE:DEFINE at the Dallas Contemporary — April 4, 7 p.m. 161 Glass St. Dallas, TX 75207.

Auctions tend to be a waste of time for the general public, and charity auctions in particular. Work is lumped together with little rhyme or reason; artists aren’t generally represented by their best pieces. After all, giving work to auctions isn’t exactly the most advantageous move for artists. That said, I checked out the works that are currently on view at the Dallas Contemporary, and managed to find 10 pieces worth your time. And the real attraction at this year’s auction is the mystery line up of NYC-based bands that will perform Friday night, hand-picked (for what it’s worth) by the artist Richard Phillips.

Constellation Logic by Alexander Dijulio at Circuit 12 Contemporary — April 5, 6-10 p.m. 1130 Dragon St. Ste. 150, Dallas, TX 75207.

Alexander Dijulio’s opening at Circuit 12 promises Ernesto Neto-style full-immersion, transforming the gallery by constructing a new floor and multiple levels within the space that will force viewers to confront his art from a variety of novel perspectives.

Open Archive at Red Arrow Contemporary — April 5, 6 p.m. 1130 Dragon St. Ste 110, Dallas, TX 75207.

Thomas Riccio, who runs the avant-garde theater group Dead White Zombies, is also a professor at the University of Texas at Dallas where he researches indigenous performance. This exhibition will feature archival material he has gathered of various performances, rituals, and tribal customs from around the world, bridging traditional and modern custom.

5 Guys at Ware:wolf:haus April 5, 7 p.m. 7-10 p.m. 425 Bedford St. Dallas, TX 75212.

The latest at Ware:wolf:haus features five male painters from Houston, ranging from Alika Herreshoff‘s sumptuous, sweet tooth abstracts to Seth Alverson‘s haunting and subliminal suburban nightmares.
