As you might have already seen on FrontBurner, we’re kicking off a month-long literacy initiative today. We’re all reading S.E. Hinton’s classic, The Outsiders. Here’s the official low-down:
Big D Reads, D Magazine’s literacy movement that celebrates “ah-ha” books, kicked off this morning. Since 6 am, we’ve handed out nearly 3,000 copies of The Outsiders. Our goal—make Dallas a city of readers—is lofty, but our methods—give 20,000 copies and create events around the book—are simple. We’ve got movie screenings planned, book discussions, and a visit from the author, S.E. Hinton (who wrote the book when she was just 16 years old). Look for us around town, handing out books.
