Snarky Puppy/Banda Magda/The Groovebumps (The Prophet Bar): In case you missed the news, Denton’s Snarky Puppy just cinched a sparkling gold gramophone for their collaboration with vocalist Lalah Hathaway. See them on their return to north Texas tonight at the Prophet Bar (or tomorrow at Hailey’s in Denton).

“Soundwaves” (Sunset Lounge): Musicians -Topic and Simon Phoenix have promised that they will be “keepin’ it extra progressive” and “providing lush auditory soulscapes and experimental ear velvet” for us tonight. This weekly twinkled into existence only last Tuesday, so this is about as fresh as it gets.

I asked -Topic to give an idea of what we’ll hear. “We basically play a bunch of new age beach-party-at-sunset appropriate songs,” he said, and sent along this sample track from his DJ set:

Hospitality/Air Waves/American Werewolf Academy (City Tavern): Head here tonight for sensible indie pop that is a few days tardy for an appropriately saccharine Valentine’s outing. For people who love to “snuggle.”

“The Showdown” (Sundown): DJ Blake Ward will be joined this evening by a new band called From Parts Unknown.

Sleepy Sun/Smoke and Feathers/Fortune Field (Three Links)

Typesetter/Not Half Bad/Record Setter/Two Knights/Mammoth King (1919 Hemphill)

Hayes Carll (Dan’s Silverleaf)
