Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.: Usually this dynamic Detroit duo can be found entertaining the masses at the local music festival, but there’s no denying the stellar show you’ll get when you just give Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. a little room. They’ll bring their unique mix of folk and punk to Trees tonight, where you can expect an almost immediately crowded dance floor and a good time from beginning to end. The pair’s 2013 effort, The Speed of Things, delighted fans as a solid follow up to their 2011 debut, It’s a Corporate World–and also as an introspective look on today’s Internet-obsessed society. The team, consisting of members Daniel Epstein and Daniel Zott, also released a mixtape earlier this month to decent reviews, so be sure to keep an ear out for that on the set list.
Marc Broussard: Soul music runs in this singer-songwriter’s family—after all, Broussard is the son of legendary Boogie Kings guitarist Ted Broussard, and well-steeped in the rich amalgamation of cultures, sounds, and interests that can only result from a childhood in Louisiana. Just a little south of New Orleans lies the home of “Bayou Soul,”–a distinctive sound that mixes blues, funk, pop, R&B and more. It’s also the heart of Broussard’s act, who melds these sounds with his Southern roots. He’ll be playing The Kessler Theater tonight; Austin’s very own Mingo Fishtrap supports.
