Yesterday, I mentioned that the surf pop act, La Luz, would be playing this evening at Three Links, but there are a few other events around town this evening that are worthy of your attention.
First, there’s Phoenix, AZ’s Destruction Unit at Rubber Gloves Rehearsal Studios. Though the members of the band are known for playing in far more extreme acts—such as Marshstepper, to name one—Destruction Unit is by no means light on the ears, but they do very much stay within the confines of a distorted rock band. The rather complex local punk act, Stymie and the heavily prog rock Vaults of Zin will keep the bill nicely diverse, and the rarely seen Public Health will also perform. That’s a harsh noise solo project from Discipline’s Andrew Haas, which opens the show.
Elsewhere this evening, Lucius and You Won’t play Club Dada, right on the heels of Lucius’ free show at Good Records at 5 p.m.
As for the DJs, you have Blake Ward with his weekly residency at Sundown at Granada. I went to the artist’s birthday show on at Beauty Bar on Saturday and it was wall-to-wall with well-wishers. That made the second time I could barely make my way through a room last weekend, if you count The Party show at It’ll Do the night before. Ward won’t have a guest this evening, but he’s fine on his own.
DJ Amy Gee’s long look back at pop music through the ages will be at Double Wide this evening. And finally, George Quartz will be selecting tracks at Ten Bells tonight.
