Tricks with Mix Contest. Though the directions are a bit ambiguous (“start with a mix and create a trick other than what the mix was intended for”) we’re confident the competitors will know what they’re doing. Oct. 13

Sea Turtle, Giant Pacific Octopus and Coconut Crab Feeding. What do giant Pacific octopi eat for lunch? Answer: anything they want. We’re willing to bet most of you have never seen a giant octopus or coconut crab snarf down a meal. Now you can. 11 a.m. Children’s Aquarium at Fair Park.

All-American Casserole Contest. We love a casserole, and we find inspiration in those whose repertoire extends beyond King Ranch (not that it isn’t delicious, because it is). The first-place winner brings home $15—that’s a lot of cans of cream of mushroom soup! Entries accepted at 9 a.m., judging at 10:30 a.m. Contest Kitchen, Creative Arts Department.

Ice Cream Freeze-Off. Hand-cranked ice cream: It’s tasty, and it’s fun. Find out who has the best recipe at this event. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. SW Dairy Farmers Gazebo Stage.

Shoot Low Sheriff. 4, 5:45, and 8:30 p.m. Chevrolet Main Stage.
