Attention Architecture-Loving High School Students

The Nasher Sculpture Center, The Rachofsky House, and a handful of other organziatoins are partnering for a weeklong summer architecture workshop for high school students.

Join architect and educator Peter Goldstein, AIA, for a week-long workshop exploring some of the most talked-about and innovative structures in Dallas. Participants will visit buildings designed by a host of the world’s leading architects including Pritzker Prize Laureates Renzo Piano, Richard Meier, Norman Foster, Thom Mayne and I. M. Pei.

Destination Dallas: Summer Architecture Workshop
For Students Entering Grades 9-12
Destination Dallas 2011

Join architect and educator Peter Goldstein, AIA, for a week-long workshop exploring some of the most talked-about and innovative structures in Dallas. Participants will visit buildings designed by a host of the world’s leading architects including Pritzker Prize Laureates Renzo Piano, Richard Meier, Norman Foster, Thom Mayne and I. M. Pei.

Workshop participants will be given the unique opportunity to experience in depth, behind the scenes tours of the Nasher Sculpture Center, the Wyly Theatre, the Winspear Opera House, the Meyerson Symphony Center, the Trinity River Audubon Center, and The Rachofsky House. Participants will also visit the Dallas Center for Architecture and view a number of projects currently under construction in downtown Dallas, including the Woodall Rodgers Deck Park and the Museum of Nature and Science.

Participants will also visit a local design firm, and document their experiences by creating a sketchbook of drawings, diagrams, photos and observations about these important new buildings and the architects who designed them.
Destination Dallas participants will:

· develop an appreciation of architecture and the built environment
· develop and explore various drawing and photographic techniques
· develop critical thinking, communication and observation skills
· become familiar with architectural history and the work of current architects

Registrations will be accepted from March 7 – May 27, 2011 on a first-come, first-served basis.

Maximum capacity is 20 participants. Students whose applications are received after the program has filled will be added to a waiting list.
