Regarding Paul Stewart’s departure from the Dallas Symphony, Scott Cantrell writes that while Stewart was popular with DSO staff, new CEO Bill Lively didn’t think there was room in the organization for both of them:
“We began to divide responsibilities and look at an organization chart,” Lively said. “But we kept stepping on each other’s toes. We were having some undesirable redundancies.”
“It’s tough to have two leaders, especially when you have an interim president that’s still there, and not have confusion as to what needs to be done. We agreed that this was just clumsy for everybody, and he decided this was the best thing to do.”
