Photographer Chris Usher was in the White House press pool for three administrations. While shooting for magazines, he always carried an additional camera that he used to take photos of the world behind the president. That work is now part of the show “Behind the Velvet Rope” showing at Rising Gallery in Dallas. FrontRow spoke with Usher about life behind the scenes in the White House, the realization of his historical project, and the idea of the journalist as artist.
