Dallas Art Today: Opera For Everyone, Dorrough Asks for Support, and Sarah Jaffe’s New Video

1. Check this one off my list of “things that need to happen in Sammons Park:” the Dallas Opera will simulcast the season’s opening night, showing Don Giovanni for free in Annette Strauss Square on the big jumbotron. Just as long as there are beer carts, cheap wurst for sale, and plenty of kids, blankets, and bicycles, it should feel like I’m back in Max-Joseph Platz in Munich for Oper für Alle. Well done.

2. Dallas hip-hop artist Dorrough has written a piece for sohh.com telling readers why they should buy his new album Get Big. Reason number two:

I’m representing a state with a long line of hip-hop legends. I am the newest face representing Texas hip-hop. I also represent a city with little hip-hop history. I am one of the first to be seen and heard from my city on a large scale. The entire state of Texas is on Dallas music now, it’s a young area but there is a lot of talent. If I win, Dallas and Texas wins and more doors will be opened for my city and state.

3. During the Sarah Jaffe concert last weekend, the singer-songwriter showed the audience her nww video for her song “Clementine.” Now we can all check it out right here.
