Ticket Giveaway: Dylan Sneed at the Kessler Theater

By Peter Simek |

The South Carolina Free Times called Dylan Sneed “a sober Townes Van Zandt,” which is one of those dead-on accusations of derivativeness that nonetheless feels like a compliment. Like Townes, the singer-songwriter (who packs some mean finger-picking skills) knows how to turn a phrase, swoon and brood, and pack a joke and a tear in a single line, all in the plain language of the everyday. I mean, this simple little platitude seems harmless enough – “Maybe Dallas really ain’t that bad / Maybe I make up reasons to be sad” – but when Sneed sings it in the clip below with The Dallas Family Band’s Jacob Metcalf, it feels like a blow to gut to anyone who has ever loved and hated our fair city. Sneed, the former Dallasite traveling troubadour, will be touching down at the Kessler Theater tomorrow night and we have a pair of tickets to giveaway. They’re going to the first person to email me ([email protected]) with the name of the other folksy swooner who wondered about seeing Dallas from a DC9 at night. (Oh, and did we mention The Beaten Sea is also on the bill?)
