There was far more tragedy written about in the pages of D Magazine than we ordinarily care for, but those were the stories that needed telling in 2013. The untimely death of a war hero, an explosion that shook a small town, how the loss of two teenage boys proved a rallying cry for a community—with these and others our writers endeavored to do justice to the people at the heart of these tales, as well as all those affected by them.
