This home is a beautiful example of what makes buying a home in Dallas
so darn pleasant. Where else could you snag a 2,808-square-foot home
with a pool south of LBJ—south of Forest Lane, in this case—for less than $500K? She may need some attention in the bathrooms, and you may
have to put your granite kitchen dreams on hold but, hey, Lowes is
about three miles away. This is a tried-and-true North Dallas ranch built in 1955,
when the city was expanding northward. At 6137 Preston Haven you
get hardwoods, updated HVAC and furnace, new dishwasher, new hot water
heater, and new roof (2003). With three good-size bedrooms (Nos. 2 and 3 are 14-by-14 each) and two-and-a-half baths, this home has been
lovingly cared for and maintained. The gunite pool has a reconditioned
Polaris and is surrounded by mature trees on the 100-by-160 lot.
Note: this home backs up to the Preston-Forest shopping center, which
can be a plus (walk for milk!) or a minus, due to recent crime in the shopping center. But the neighborhood association is strong and
supports a voluntary patrol system, which has cut down on crime
dramatically. If I were a young first- or second-time home buyer, I
would look at this one long and hard. It’s in a great location, the sellers are motivated, and you could always, always scrape it in 10. There’s an open house
this Sunday, and the agent, Martha Morguloff, will have this home and some
other plumb listings open Sunday from 2 to 4 pm.
