We’ve rounded up World Series specials at local bars to accommodate both those ready to have their antler signs out, loud and proud, and those who prefer a slightly more, ahem, attentive atmosphere.
Antlers Up
The Nodding Donkey. This bar may be brand new, but it’s quickly becoming the mother-ship for Uptown sports fanatics. Plan to get there early, unless you’re the kind of fan who doesn’t believe in sitting while cheering. While most the games begin after their happy hour ends, they do offer $2 Pearl Lights and $3 tall boy PBR’s until close.
McKinney Avenue Tavern. Sports crowds flock here as if it’s the only place in town with a big screen. The cheers are heard all the way down McKinney, and the $2 PBR’s and $4 Cuervo Silver shots keep even the claustrophobic smiling. Don’t be shy with your team pride: Big Al has been known to treat the loudest table to a round of shots.
Frankie’s. It’s easy to enter sports fan overload here, but it’s a safe bet for a good time. Although happy hour ends at 7 pm, they still offer daily specials until close, such as $3 wells on Wednesday, $3 margaritas on Thursday, and $3 martinis on Monday. During the Series, it’s $18 buckets of beer and $5 Red Bull & Vodkas all day, every day.
Humperdink’s Arlington. Going to the games this weekend? We’re jealous. But we’ll still share this helpful tip: Humperdink’s offers a shuttle to Rangers Ballpark. So get there early, fill up on $2.99 shot specials and $4.99 blasters, house margaritas, and tall teas, then shuttle yourselves right on over to the stadium. Easy as 1-2-(Cliff) Lee.
Barcadia this week is making up for what the corner block of Henderson Avenue and McMillan lacks: your typical sports bar. They’re playing all games of the Series on every TV in the house, including those on the patio. They’ll have $3 pints on Wednesday, keep happy hour going until 8 pm on Thursday and Saturday, and offer $4 you-call its on Sunday. If Game 5 proves necessary, there’s half-priced food on Monday.
Granada Theater. Care to see the Rangers on the biggest screen in Dallas? The Granada is showing Game 1 of the Series on Wednesday with $3 wells and beer bucket specials. Doors open at 5:30 pm so you can claim your seat. (Hint: call ahead before other games in the Series, as some conflict with their scheduled shows.)
Knox Street Pub. The sports-loving owners invite fans to enjoy their super-sized big screen. We doubt the dance floor will be flooded during the games, so your view should be just fine. Specials vary depending on the game day, but expect $3 draft pints, $4 you-call-its, and $10 pitchers.
Fox and Hound. Here, your wing-slinging, beer-chugging fans await. Take advantage of the $3.50 Coors Light and Miller Lite cans all day. Stock up on $13 beer buckets and $4 drafts and Absolut shots for the Saturday and Sunday games, and 50-cent wings on Monday.
Claws to Yourself, Please
Lakewood’s 1st & 10. These sports fans don’t mess around. Don’t come here with pom-poms and streamers; you’re better off armed with statistics and trivia. It doesn’t hurt to bring your appetite, either. If you want a huge, juicy burger with your innings rather than the typical fried-somethings with ranch, this is your bar. On Wednesday, the you-call its are $4 all day. That’s a perfect match for Game 1.
Jorge’s. The aptly named “Beat the Giants” reverse happy hour is scheduled for Games 1 and 2. Beginning at 7 pm until the end of the games, the restaurant’s bar will serve $3 domestics, $4 imports, and $5 house margaritas, wells, and wine. Be sure to sport your red and blue, as every Rangers fan receives two complimentary mini tacos.
State & Allen Lounge. The calmer sibling to the Nodding Donkey, State & Allen will show all the games while featuring their usual weekly drink specials from 10 pm until midnight: $2 bottled beers, $3 wells, and $4 select wines. That’s enough to have you wishing the games go deep into the extra innings.
Vino 100. We wouldn’t have pegged this quaint little wine bar for coming down with a case of Rangers fever, but apparently Vino 100’s sports bar neighbors have passed on the excitement. The place will show all of the Series, and both Texas and San Francisco fans are welcome: Texas beers and California wines are 25% off during the games. No reservations are required.
Hully & Mo. If you find screaming sports fans more obnoxious than entertaining, head here. The upscale sports bar allows the usual perks of a sports lounge – televisions, happy hour, dark leather and wood – without the drunken jersey-clad fan spilling his pitcher down your back. While the daily specials – $2 off cocktails and wine, $2.50 domestics, $3.50 imports, and $7 appetizers – end at 7 pm, for some reason we think you’re willing to pay full price in exchange for (relative) peace and quiet with every pitch.
The Hacienda on Henderson. Does a hearty Mexican meal calm your game-day nerves? Then grab yourself a table on Hacienda’s patio, where they’ll be showing Games 1 and 2 on all 10 of their big screens. Drink specials begin at 6:30 pm both Wednesday and Thursday, which include $2 PBR’s and $3 fastball shots.
