THURSDAY, JANUARY 7

Nightlife // $3 Thursdays at BlackFinn Arlington

If you’ve got a full tank of gas, a few bucks to spare, and a big appetite, head over to BlackFinn for $3 Thursdays. All drinks are only $3, except for Red Bulls and martinis, which are $5. There’s a free appetizer buffet, and for each 15 friends you bring, you get a $25 gift card. It pays to be popular.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 8

Music // Smile Empty Soul at Trees
Any Smile Empty Soul fans out there? The band wants to show you how much they appreciate your fanship by adding you to the guest list for their next show at Trees. RSVP here for two free tickets.

Nightlife // $1 Champagne and Margaritas at Shade
We think we might have $1 left to our name after the Christmas holiday. And what better way to spend it than on a glass of champagne or a tasty margarita? Friday night, we’re headed to Shade for cheap drinks and DJ Hooligan beats. $1 drinks from 10-11 pm. No cover. For discount bottles, call 214-289-9889.

Music // Texas High School Rock Off
We wanted to be rock stars in high school. Actually, we still do. The difference between us and these high school kids is that they have talent. Watch them compete for a chance to open for a national act and some (much-deserved) cash. Tickets from $8. 6 pm. House of Blues, 2200 N. Lamar St. 214-978-2583.

Happenings // Texas Fishing, Hunting, and Outdoors Show
Sorry to our PETA-loving friends, but we like guys who like to hunt and fish. That’s why we are definitely planning to camp out
all weekend at this 14th annual event. For outdoor enthusiasts, this is the jackpot—seminars, equipment, fishing demos (including a first-ever ice
fishing seminar), and much more. There’s even a Kids Cove, where the
folks from Radio Disney keep your offspring entertained for
hours. However, Friday night is “date night” at the show, so you might
want to leave the kiddos at home. $10. 10 am–8 pm. Arlington Convention
Center, 1200 Ballpark Way, Arlington. 469-549-0673.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 9

Music, Nightlife // STRINGS at Wish Ultra Lounge
We’ve never seen or heard anything like this before, but we bet it’s pretty amazing, so we’ll see you Saturday night at Wish. Violinist Richmand Punch performs live to the sounds of DJ Nameless. You better RSVP for this one: 214-389-5723.

Music // Michael Jackson Laser Spectacular
Still missing MJ? We are, too. That’s why we are slipping on our sparkly gloves and heading to the Majestic for the Michael Jackson Laser Spectacular featuring a 3-D Michael, an MJ tribute artist, a light and laser show, and plenty of his beloved music for us to sing along with at the top of our lungs. Moon walking optional. From $29.50. 9 pm. The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm St. 214-969-5807.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 10

Music, Kid Stuff // Dallas Symphony’s Symphonic Brass Spectacular
Sure, everyone likes the guitar and the piano. But when was the last time you heard a tuba? Or trombone? Yep, it’s been a while. We suggest packing up the kiddos and taking them to this concert. The DSO’s brass section is the star, and they play selections such as Copland’s “Fanfare for the Common Man” and “Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.” Arriving early pays off: kids can enjoy “brass-inspired” games and activities in the lobby. Jan 10, 2:30 pm. The Meyerson Symphony Center, 2301 Flora St. 214-670-3600.

WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 13

Nightlife, Sports // $39 Dinner and a Limo to the Mavs Game
If you’ve already got tickets to the Mavs vs. Lakers game, you just need another $39 for dinner and a round-trip limo ride from Bengal Coast. The restaurant is offering the special deal to game-goers so they can avoid expensive parking, traffic delays, and cold walks from the parking lots. Park for free in the restaurant’s garage, enjoy a yummy dinner, hop in a limo, and cheer on the Mavs. Limited space. Reservations: 972-230-8144.
