Music // Brice Beaird at Poor David’s Pub
These are the kinds of stories we like to hear. Local guy Brice Beaird has been playing music since he was 10, but like many people, he eventually went and found a “real” job. (He’s the co-owner of Beaird and Boone Marketing.) At 58, he’s still playing guitar, and his second solo CD, Now Appearing, has just been released. Here’s the other thing—he’s really good. Music // G. Love and the Special Sauce
You might remember this band from a little show called Turn Ben Stein On, which aired from 1999 to 2001. They were the house band. No? Well, the guys are from Philadelphia, and they are known for their laid-back blues sound and songs like “Baby’s Got Sauce,” “Cold Beverage,” and “Rodeo Clowns.” We’re looking forward to the mellow “Soft and Sweet.” 8 pm. House of Blues.
Museums and Galleries // Dallas Art Fair
We attended the first Dallas Art Fair last year, and it was quite the upscale event. This year is sure to be the same. More than 45 national and international galleries take their wares to f.i.g., where plebs like us can gawk at artists such as Carl Andre, Charles Burchfield, John Chamberlain, Stuart Davis, Tom Friedman, Adam Fuss, Philip Guston, Donald Moffett, and many more. Local galleries Dunn & Brown Contemporary, Barry Whistler, Marty Walker, and Kristy Stubbs participate, so art lovers do not want to miss this. And neither do we. Feb 5–7. Fashion Industry Gallery.

Kid Stuff // Target First Saturdays
We love the Nasher, so we jump on every opportunity to hang out there. If you’re like us (and if you’re not, you should rethink that), Target First Saturdays are for you—especially if you have kids. There are performances, yoga classes, and the new Jaume Plensa exhibit for you to gawk at, and it’s all free. This month’s theme: Legacy. 10 am–2 pm. Nasher Sculpture Center.
Nightlife // Haiti Relief Event at Wish
Do your part to help Haiti by attending Wish’s charity event this weekend. A portions of the night’s proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross and Hope for Haiti to support disaster-relief efforts. 9 pm. Music by DJ Splyce. Bottle service and guest list: 214-389-5723.

Happenings // Mardi Gras Oak Cliff
We’ve always wanted to attend Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Unfortunately we are not cool enough or rich enough to do so. Luckily, our friends in the OC want to hang out with us, so we’ll head to the Bishop Arts District for a 1.2-mile NOLA-style parade, featuring lots of beads, food from local restaurants such as Hattie’s and Eno’s, plenty of live jazz, and flowing Hurricanes. 4 pm. mardigrasoakcliff.com.
Nightlife // Super Bowl Sunday at The Patio Grill
Three words: Football. Alcohol. Crawfish. That’s pretty much all we need on Super Bowl Sunday. Patio Grill is offering all of the aforementioned, plus drink specials such as $5 calls and $6 vodka/Red Bulls.
Nightlife // Super Bowl Party at The Boardroom
The Boardroom is offering Miller and Coors Light specials, a $25 all-you-can-eat buffet, and prize giveaways throughout the game, including a pair of tickets to the Boardoom’s NBA All Star Weekend Party featuring Snoop Dogg. Did we mention Jager promo girls? Doors open at 4 pm.

At the Dallas and Plano locations, Vickery Park is throwing a huge bash with good food, “lotsa” beer, and big screens. Get there early for a spot.

Hacienda on Henderson is offering $10 beer bucket specials, shot specials, and $3 margaritas until 7 pm. Catch the game on one of the big screens inside or outside on the patio. Make reservations for four and get a free quesadilla appetizer.
