When Steven Soares, VP of JP Morgan, began his career, the choice sport for executives was golf. But Steven has always been one to go the literal extra mile. Every day, Steven balances the big picture needs of his organization, while earning his PhD, caring for his family, and training for the Dallas Marathon.
In fact, he believes running gives him perspective during this balancing act.
Today, Steven is training for the Columbia Business School Executive Challenge – a race within a race – at the Dallas Marathon December 11. The Executive Challenge dares Dallas senior executives to compete for the fastest time. Winners receive a $5000 donation to the Texas Scottish Rite in their name, and a chance to win free tuition to one of Columbia’s Executive Education courses.
We caught Steven for an interview right before his afternoon run on the Katy Tail, coincidentally on his birthday. (What can we say? The man loves to run.) This is his explanation on how running empowers the critical choices he makes every day at JP Morgan.
