5 Things That Help Us Feel Smarter and Saner

The Energizer

Blue Bottle Coffee at Number One

Starbucks is old school, but caffeine is required. After tucking into a latte at Dana Card’s airy Highland Park Village organic cafe, we feel downright virtuous about our coffee addiction. Topped with a spoonful of organic coconut palm sugar, the Blue Bottle coffee and house-made organic almond milk elixir provides our steady afternoon buzz guilt free.

The Perfector

Le Métier de Beaute Peau Vierge Anti-Aging Complexe

This dream cream goes on sheer; boasts Retinol, light-diffusing pigments, and SPF 18; and makes us look like we’ve logged a full night’s sleep, downed eight glasses of water, and dutifully attended yoga class—even if we haven’t. A 1-ounce cylinder is a hefty $125, but it’s a small price to pay for the endless exclamations of “Your skin looks amazing!”

The Getaway

Marfa

Marfa attracts a parade of intelligentsia. Less known is how perfect the tiny west Texas art enclave is for a family getaway. We’ve made the nine-hour pilgrimage to West Texas two summers running and count the trips among our best vacations. What the heck do we do in Marfa with kids? We marvel at Donald Judd’s pristine metal cubes and Dan Flavin’s neon light wonders at Chianti. We wake up early to look for flattened pennies on the train tracks and then linger over pancakes and coffee at Cochineal. We eat really good pizza and indulge in ice cream cones from the laundry mat before riding our bikes down deserted streets, ogling at a star-flooded night sky. And, if we crave an escape from our escape, we drive to Balmorhea and swim alongside giant catfish in the ice-cold, spring-fed pool. The best part? We come home rested, closer, and wholly recharged.

The Transformer

MiH Skinny Marrakesh Jeans

We’ve been itching to swap our straight-leg jeans for something a little more “model off duty” (à la Kate) for a while. Enter the Skinny Marrakesh. A streamlined take on MiH’s cult-favorite Marrakesh Flare, the soft, stretchy, midrise pant hugs our curves before flaring at the knee, making us look lean and super leggy. But the real win is how pulling on these jeans with a slouchy white tee and slim black blazer makes us feel immensely cool.

The Organizer

An Arsenal of Pouches

Whether we’re carrying a Givenchy Pandora or a canvas tote, leather pouches keep us organized by corraling cosmetics and coins, and the bright colors make them easy to spot in the bottom of our bag.
