For nearly 30 years, devotees of Joanne and Charles Teichman’s Ylang 23 jewelry boutique made their way to the Galleria to peruse the store’s dazzling lineup from designers such as Irene Neuwirth, Cathy Waterman, and Todd Reed. Then, last spring, the pair decided to bring Ylang 23 closer to their Park Cities fan base and opened up in the Plaza at Preston Center. “This is the only space we considered, and we are so happy,” Joanne Teichman says. The Plaza, which she calls “retail heaven,” is bustling—and it’s not just because of Sprinkles’ cupcake ATM. “I love everything about the Plaza at Preston Center: the ambience, convenience, security, fabulous clients, and great mix of shops and restaurants.” Here she shares a few of her favorite stops.

Kira Plastinina’s flagship store is stocked with the young designer’s frocks and head-turning prints.

The Lucky Dog Barkery

Teichman says, “My Eddie and Tuey love their toys and treats, and I love getting lost in this heaven for dogs.” We love the eco-conscious selection.

Calypso St. Barth

“I love how the store has evolved from just beachy wear to become a great destination for year-round clothing, home, and hostess gifts,” Teichman says.

Swoozies

Says Teichman: “It’s a great place to pop in when we need to throw together a party on an insane schedule—like, in an hour.” Find everything from personalized napkins to thank-you notes.

Pockets Menswear

You can shop Italian lines or made-to-measure. “I love the quality and selection of sharp men’s clothing,” Teichman says. “It’s a beautiful store.”

Orvis

Although fly-fishing is its specialty, the store stocks everyday outdoor clothing and accessories for men and women, luggage, and gear for dogs.

Apples to Zinnias

“It’s my go-to place for sending the chicest arrangements to friends,” Teichman says. For gifts, we go for a colorful seasonal arrangement or a basket of succulents.

Sprinkles

“Who can resist Sprinkles?” Teichman asks. She also divulges her secret for skipping the line: “Shop the ice cream store, which carries the cupcakes, too.” Our not-so-secret indulgence: the vegan Red Velvet cupcake.
