For The Modernist
Collage 20th Century Classics
If you’re an Eames purist, owners Abby and Wlodek Malowanczyk’s Design District shop is your Mecca. You’ll discover not only Charles and Ray’s iconic designs but also a who’s who of 20th-century masters, including Platner, Wegner, and more with no knockoffs to be found within Collage’s 8,500 square feet. This is the place to shop for the real midcentury deal.
Smink
For 24 years, the Smink sisters—Jennifer, Autumn, and Dawn—have kept modern Dallas homes well furnished with the likes of Minotti, Arflex, Molteni & C, and more. You know the look: sleek and sexy in a minimalist way. Locally, their inventory of Italian contemporary lines is peerless. Over the years, Smink has also added fine art to its offerings, rotating exhibitions in its showroom by artists such as Gary Faye, Diane McGregor, and Meredith Pardue.
Scott + Cooner
Lloyd Scott and Josy Cooner’s Design District showroom carries more than 70 lines of classic and contemporary furniture and accessories. But many are unaware that Scott + Cooner also designs modern kitchens, providing every facet of service—architecture, installation, and finishings—and outfitting the hub of your home with the finest kitchen systems, including Bazzéo, Pedini, and Varenna by Poliform.
For The Romantic
Vintage Living
Shabby chic is so passe. So let’s call Lisa Luby Ryan’s boutique “delightfully distressed.” The interior designer’s tasteful European finds are noted for their soft, neutral palette—ivory, cream, and oatmeal—as well as their lovingly worn appeal. You’ll find Queen Anne chairs, towering cabinets, and sparkling chandeliers. Tabletop enthusiasts, take note: her collection of antique silverware and delicate linen napkins give any table a French feel.
Wisteria
Owners Shannon and Andrew Newsom’s catalog and website are both full of global goodies that make habitual redecorators swoon: Chinese tables, Moroccan lamps, Navajo rugs, and more. Happily, locals can see the furnishings firsthand at Wisteria’s Love Field area outlet store, which also stocks one-of-a-kind items not found in the company’s catalog.
B. Gover Limited
Hunter and gatherers head to this Design District treasure trove of eclectic antiques for French settees, mercantile cabinets, theater sconces, and more. Our favorite find: owner Barbara Gover’s collection of vintage grain sacks dating back to the 1800s.
