Review: Bistro N

Though open at the Nordstrom in NorthPark Center for three years, Bistro N remains a buried treasure at dinner—despite an upscale foodie-centric menu and a comfortable bar. Lunch is a mad rush for Asian chicken salad, but lots of diners still don’t know that Bistro N is up until 11 PM on weekends, making it a smart choice after a movie at the AMC theater next door. Sneaking into Nordstrom after hours via a dedicated elevator affords cheap, stealthy thrills.

Pizzas are made with hand-tossed dough, and new pies are rotated in frequently. One held roasted vegetables, a novel blend that included red onion, asparagus, and parsnip, cooked until just soft, with a “sauce” of ricotta and spinach in place of humdrum tomato. Another, chicken ratatouille, had tender shredded chicken with tomatoes and mellow eggplant. An entrée of crab cakes came two to an order with Bistro N’s signature tempura asparagus, with lemon-chive aioli for dipping.

At the bar, they mixed house-made lemonade with fresh lemon and sugar, and berries muddled to order, your choice of strawberries or raspberries. Want it spiked with a splash of Austin-made Savvy vodka? Sure, it’s dinnertime. Why not?
