Review: Dallas City Market

This small gourmet market is big on flavorful food and all the fun stuff that goes with it.
|

Every neighborhood should be as lucky as University Park when it comes to quick-stop shops offering high-quality, take-home meals. This small store is big on flavorful food and all the fun stuff that goes with it. The center cold case is crammed with prepared heat-and-eat foods, such as big-as-your-head, twice-baked potatoes stuffed with Parmesan, cheddar, and Swiss cheeses; Texas corn crab cakes with Nantucket tartar sauce; and Asiago-crusted trout.

Folks with simpler tastes can pick up a pre-made turkey and Brie sandwich on nine-grain bread or a plate lunch (yes to the barbecue brisket!) from the open kitchen in the back. The shelves are lined with plenty of fancy condiments, salsas, chips, pickles, and peppers, and the salad bar has a line around the store by 12:30. (There are plenty of tables for those who care to dine in.)

If you’re lucky, you’ll hit the store during the red-dot wine sales. We picked up two lovely bottles of Riesling for only $7 each.
