HOT MAMA

Modern moms-to-be show off this summer in sexy maternity wear.

MATERNITY WEAR HAS COME A LONG way, baby. Forget about shapeless cotton jumpers and flat, uninspired shoes. Think snug-fitting, boot-cut jeans and Christian Louboutin stilettos. Everyone from Diane Von Furstenberg to Michael Stars has joined the maternity wear revolution that began in 1997 with former Vogue fashion editor Liz Lange, who we hear is eyeing a space in Highland Park Village for her eponymous maternity line. We have two words of advice for creating your pregnancy wardrobe: cut and fabric. Frankly, that’s good advice for any outfit, whether you’re pregnant or not. A great cut is the foundation—make sure you can move easily and the lines of your shirt or pants don’t pinch. Fabric is equally important. Cotton and Lycra blends are the least expensive and easiest to wear; if you want something that looks and feels more expensive, try cashmere. Just remember to have fun with your new wardrobe—this is the one time that you’ll be happy to show off your expanding belly.

Marisol is wearing: Pea in the Pod dress ($220/Pea in the Pod, Inwood Village); Claudio Merazzi shoes ($410/Steven Spodek); Bonnie Basham freshwater pearl and antique jade butterfly necklace worn as bracelet ($600/Elements).
