The
new baggage-screening rules in airports have really forced ALAINA
KALANJ to clean up her act. The 22-year-old Canadian-born actress lives
in Dallas, but she keeps landing roles that require flying to
Hollywood. “Dallas is my favorite city to live in,” Kalanj says. “All
the others are nice to visit, but to live, it’s gotta be Dallas.” Her
first lead role was opposite supermodel Rachel Hunter in the indie film
Pendulum, which won the award for Best Dramatic Feature at last year’s Deep Ellum Film Festival. Kalanj has also appeared in Serving Sara and the WB series Dawson’s Creek. Her latest effort, the feature Screen Door Jesus,
will be released next year. Her problem with airports? “Security always
singles me out,” Kalanj says. “And I hate people looking through my
dirty underwear. So I’ve taken to washing my underwear in the shower at
hotels I’m staying in.” Somewhere, a proud mother and a dutiful
security officer are smiling.
