After the Vanderbilt win. alumni pressure to keep Gregg in both spots reached a zenith, and Gregg did nothing to discourage such talk. But Pye realized that all SMU sports suffer when the top administrator considers football first and all else afterwards. He proved his commitment can’t be bargained for boosters’ bucks.
