TEENS ON DRUGS: WHO CAN HELP?

If a teenager in your family has a drug problem, numerous organizations in the Dallas area offer educational programs and professional treatment.



Education/Information/Referral



Circles of Concern: A coalition of parents with students in several area private schools; publishes a handbook for parents ($5), a directory of where to seek help ($2.50), and a guide for community action ($2.50); also sponsors a support group that meets once a week in the fall at Lovers Lane Methodist Church. Offers a six- to eight-week family education program every Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m.; classes geared toward support, early intervention, and prevention; $50 per family; referral service provided.



Dallas Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse: 5415 Maple Avenue, Suite 316, Dallas, Texas 75235. 638-7090. Information, education, and referral agency that offers six-session family education classes; fee determined on sliding scale; bilingual with taped twenty-four-hour referral line.



Dallas Independent School District Drug Abuse Prevention Program: 5000 S. Oakland, Dallas, Texas 75215. 426-3234, ext. 310. Offers free education, prevention, intervention, and referrals for students and families in DISD only; DISD also offers another program that seeks out drug-dependent students and refers them to support groups.



Chemical Awareness Council/Park Cities: 5600 W. Lovers Lane, Suite 241. Dallas, Texas 75209. 353-2673. Offers drug and alcohol prevention information, assessment, intervention, education, and referral; six-week first offender course offered; sliding scale fees available.
