Thumbs Up to Dallas Assistant City Manager Levi Davis for his rational and humane handling of the recent rash of police shootings within the city. Davis set up a review process for the Citizens/Police Relations Board that provides a much-needed in-depth review of all the police shootings within the past year, so that trends can be spotted and problems alleviated. Until now, each shooting had been investigated individually. Davis also assigned two South Dallas residents to the board, providing a more balanced input from the community that has the most problems. He also has set up public hearings on the shootings. And Davis and Deputy City Manager Camille Barnett are personally studying the use of deadly force procedures, looking for any flaws in the program.
