What Next? Tornado Monthly?

|

A group of Times Herald reporters and editors have brought new meaning to the phrase “enterprise reporting.” Following the Wichita Falls tornado, Herald staffers Doug Bedell, Ernie Makovy, John Hamilton, and Leo Lambert worked nights and weekends to put together a 32-page magazine commemorating the disaster. Ten thousand copies have been printed and marketed in the Wichita Falls area at $2 a copy. “There may be a second printing if it keeps up as well as it seems to have been doing,” says Bedell. The group will share a profit of 70 cents per copy against a start-up cost of $3900. That means the four could net as much as $10,000 from the project – enough to finance a double issue next spring, weather permitting.
