TURN ON THE OVEN

|

In this dingy, dirty box lie what are probably the world’s most precious ashes. The incinerator at Liberty Iron and Metal Works has just consumed several hundred pounds of marijuana, a shovelful of cocaine, a pound or so of heroin, and some 58,000 assorted uppers and downers. A million and a half dollars worth of drugs destroyed by Dallas police on August 25. Poof. Consider the sweat, toil, planning, fear, and risk that went up in that cloud of smoke. It’s enough to drive a man to drink.
