Best Movers
AB Moving

In the span of six months, three of the four D Home editors found
themselves in need of a mover. So Editor No. 1 sought suggestions from
friends, who told her to call AB Moving. She did just that and was
delighted with the results. The move was fast, cheap, professional, and
caused nary a complaint. Editor No. 1 recommended AB Moving to Editor
No. 2, who was also delighted. So No. 2 told No. 3, and, you guessed it,
that editor was more than pleased as well. With that track record,
we’re betting Editor No. 4 will someday follow suit.

Best Stationer
Bell’Invito

Whether we’re on the hunt for a pretty card for a co-worker or a formal invitation suite (and pretty much anything in between), Bell’Invito is our go-to spot for all things stationery. Tucked inside her McKinney Avenue decor store Nest, founder Heather Wiese-Alexander’s paper masterpieces (every piece is engraved or hand-fed through 19th-century letterpresses) commingle with an edited selection of chic, preprinted options, allowing us to grab and go on the run or settle in to create something completely customized.

Best Calligrapher
Calligraphic Arts

Yes, she has beautiful penmanship. Yes, she has decades of experience. And, yes, she has a client list that includes the likes of Buckingham Palace and the White House. But the reason Susie-Melissa Cherry of Calligraphic Arts takes the prize is her willingness to share her calligraphy wisdom with others. Her SMU classes have helped many a calligraphic neophyte master the art of hand lettering and have inspired some to launch their own calligraphy businesses.

Best Party Rentals
Ducky-Bob’s

Party rental mecca Ducky-Bob’s not only offers entertaining basics like Chiavari chairs and lush linens, it also supplies the details that make an intimate dinner party or grand event a little more special. Peruse their samplings of silver serving pieces, fine china, and réchauds and crocks. Renting a fancy set of silver chafing dishes is way better than inheriting it from your grandmother—no cleanup or polish duties. Choose from at-home delivery or pick up at the warehouse. Their service offerings include setting up and breaking down the event.

Best House Painter
Vences Painting

We first heard about Vences from our friends at Texas Paint & Wallpaper. If you’re looking for detail-oriented folks with beautiful tape skills, look no more. Our creative director gave accolades about the team’s work on his Oak Cliff abode. He said the work was perfect, and because they basically plastic-wrapped the entire house, there was absolutely no sad reminders of the paint job left behind.
