Jason McDanielis somewhat of retail aficionado. “When I travel, I seek out unique stores with fervor,” he says. “Letterpress is my passion, but there’s nothing better than great merchandising. Paper people love to look at stuff.”

So it’s fitting that the stationer behind Missing Q Press has finally opened a storefront on McKinney’s historic downtown square. Equally beloved by young brides-to-be and established social swans, McDaniel has spent the past six years crafting his classic with- a-twist letterpress creations out of a commercial studio in Dallas. On a whim, he arranged an assortment of predesigned paper goods in the reception area. Soon he found clients wandering away mid-meeting to explore, and ultimately purchase, the goods. “I started getting tons of requests for bridal party gifts and personalized stationery,” McDaniel says. “A formal shop seemed like the logical next step.”

Shelves in the new space are stocked with ephemera and loose paper as well as McDaniel’s house line of stationery, calendars, notebooks, linen napkins, and framed prints, all sporting motifs ranging from edgy skulls to initials reproduced from vintage French embroidery books. In addition to his premade collection, McDaniel is also introducing made-to-order rubber stamps and a unique custom program that allows customers to select fonts and colors to create high-end personalized stationery with same-day turnaround.

“I’m a big believer that luxurious, special things don’t have to be complicated, time-consuming, or expensive,” McDaniel says. “Nothing delights me more than walking into a place like Ladurée in New York and buying a beautiful, thoughtfully packaged box of five macarons for less than $20 from a gracious salesperson. I want to give people that same experience. Luxury shouldn’t have to cost $400.”
