A Positive Sign

It’s always a plus when a new home design store opens. When the store combines stunning contemporary furniture and merchandising know-how, it deserves a check plus. Positive Space owners Charles and Natalia Duran met while working at Todd Events—he in floral design, she in graphic design. “We had ideas from event design of how to put a space together,” Charles says. They started with the space-saving steel pegRAIL system, which can be configured for a kitchen, bathroom, utility room, or office. “We had to start with a unique and sellable product. And take risks around that,” he says. Risks include the reconstituted PVC pipe furniture by Brazilian manufacturer Tidelli, daringly colorful Louis Pieces in the New Classics series by SixInch, and exaggerated wallpaper designs by David Roos. The result is dramatic, which is no surprise—Roos is a former theater designer and Charles studied theater history. Positive Space. 1729 Irving Blvd., #101. 214-749-1080. www.positivespacestore.com.
