Pocket squares may look like ordinary handkerchiefs, but you wouldn’t dream of wiping your nose with this summer’s hottest accessory. The pocket square is popping up in stylish men’s wardrobes for every occasion, and dressing your look up or down can be as easy as changing what’s peeking out of your pocket. At the office, keep it clean and simple with an understated straight-edge fold. Lose the tie but keep the square—the more colorful the pattern, the better—and you’re instantly hip for happy hour. Shane Walley, dress furnishings buyer for Stanley Korshak, says you can even use one to smarten up your everyday attire. “A white linen square trimmed with orange or yellow gives a man a sophisticated summer look.” Walley also recommends mixing colors rather than matching them, so say arrivederci to monochromatic monotony. “The look I like to go for is the Neapolitan look,” says Walley. “Blending reds, oranges, and pinks is very Southern Italian.”
