On a particularly gloomy recent Dallas day, I sought refuge in It’s Complicated, the breezy 2009 Nancy Meyers flick with great performances from Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin, and a home in Santa Barbara. After being aesthetically soothed by the movie—as Meyers’ works are wont to do—I delved even deeper into her repertoire. The Intern took me to a handsome Brooklyn brownstone, while The Parent Trap dropped me into a lovely, all-white London home just outside Knightsbridge.
I saved the best for last: Something’s Gotta Give. Much like the image of Jack Nicholson’s behind, the green and white striped rug of that Hamptons house has left an indelible mental mark since 2003, but that kind of beachy grandeur doesn’t often make its way into local Dallas listings.
Enter: 9500 Inwood Road. Constructed in 1936 and taken down to the studs six years ago, the beautiful Preston Hollow home may not offer a proximity anywhere near an ocean, but the Robert Bellamy-designed one-acre lot (surrounded by electric gates) does boast a brand new pool and a sunny, white-walled guesthouse. Inside the main house, you’ll find light fixtures from the ’30s, a Lacanche five-burner range with two ovens, and many an appropriate spot to place a green and white striped rug.
