By the Numbers: NorthPark Center’s Fall Displays

While meandering through NorthPark Center last Sunday (my favorite time-killing activity), I was struck by something. Well, two things (that KAWS sculpture by Macy’s—cool though it may be—would have absolutely terrified my ten-year-old self), but the thing that continued to draw my eye again and again: the pumpkins. Just one of those gourd-filled displays could put even the most fervent of Highland Park Halloween decorators to shame.

So what exactly does the fall order for NorthPark’s landscaping team look like? They kindly broke it down for us.

{Keep in mind, the team orders pumpkins by the bin from a wholesale grower in Floydada, Texas, so these are close estimates.}

115 “Big Macs” (The biggest pumpkins are found throughout the shopping center)

1,150 “Monster” Gourds (In Dillard’s Court, under Mark di Suvero’s Ad Astra sculpture in NorthCourt)

13,200 Mixed Mini Gourds (Throughout NorthPark.)

750 Mini Orange Pumpkins (Throughout NorthPark.)

1,400 “Baby Boo” Mini White Pumpkins (Throughout NorthPark.)

700 “Pump-ke-mon” Striped Pumpkins (Throughout NorthPark.)

50 “Wolf” Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkins (by the cafes in NorthPark.)

350 “Mystic Pie” Pumpkins (By the fountain in front of Neiman Marcus.)

Plants used in the displays include crotons, kalanchoes, calandivas, several types of bromeliads, and orchids.
