Whoever said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks clearly has never taken a cooking class at Sur La Table, or had the creative minds at The Southern Table guide them through the art of making a Pinterest-worthy flower arrangement. It’s incredible what you can learn when you have the right tools, creative (and patient) tutors, and, at times, a rather large class of wine to boost your confidence.
As we bid adieu to summer, it seems like the perfect time to scout out some fun fall classes. Take them with friends, or ride solo and make some new ones. Either way, you’ll master a new trick just in time to impress your family during the holidays. Oh, you like that letterpress poster, Aunt Sally? Yeah, I made that.
We are 1976’s “Letterpress Poster Workshop” | $180
Need a one-of-a-kind gift? Looking to fill that wall space with something truly unique? The Bishop Arts shop’s September 12 class will teach the basics of setting type and hand-feeding to produce your very own 11” x 17” typography print.
Oil and Cotton‘s “Leatherworking” | $65
Turn a strip of rawhide into wearable art during this September 27 class. The truly Texan experience will have you cutting, tooling, and dying leather strips to make everything from bracelets to coasters.
Sur La Table’s “French Macarons at Home” | $69
Though there’s nothing quite like picking up a fresh new box of macarons from your favorite bakery, it would be nice to know how to whip up the popular French sandwich cookie on your own. This class teaches you how to make bakery-quality macarons, while celebrating the changing of the seasons with late summer and early fall flavors.
