Interior design can be daunting, especially for a gal with an inspiration board full of awe-inspiring digs. But wife-to-be Monica Lake is here to tackle the challenge of creating a Pinterest-worthy room on a budget. Through her series “Pinterest meets Practical” she’ll take a do-it-yourself approach to transforming your home from dream to reality with the help of pieces from local shops.
This gorgeous living area (with a slight boho vibe) is not only pleasing to the eye, but feels like a place you could actually kick off your heels and hang out in. The gold poufs and mirrored tray give it air of elegance, and the colors of the rug are a modern twist on a traditional print. Throw pillows are always a practical accessory for any couch, as well as a non-permanent way to change up the feeling of a room. When it comes to pillows, try out your new favorite color (maybe radiant orchid?), add some sparkle, or change them with the seasons. The key to achieving a cohesive look like this is to have all the major components in a neutral color (table, sofa, wall color) so you can spice it up in other ways that are changeable later on.
Make it your own: Not everything you need for this room comes with a price-tag. You most likely already have some of these items lying around the house — the perfect budget-friendly way to add flair to your room. Along with a few adorable prints on the wall (which you can purchase from Made By Girl, I swear my roommate and I could keep her in business with the amount of things we order from her), hang some personal photos in clean white frames that have a large matting area — this will give regular old snapshots a more professional display. Stack some of your stylish coffee table books up, and show off one of your favorite knick-knacks on top (I have a gorgeous opalescent bowl filled with pine cones for winter on my table). Complete the look with a funky vase and some fresh flowers, and then you’ve made this Pinterest room practical!
