Interior design can be daunting, especially for a gal with an inspiration board full of awe-inspiring digs. But wife-to-be Monica Lake is here to tackle the challenge of creating a Pinterest-worthy room on a budget. Through her series “Pinterest meets Practical” she’ll take a do-it-yourself approach to transforming your home from dream to reality with the help of pieces from local shops.
What stands on all fours, rolls around, and is always ready to party? No, I’m not talking about Miley Cyrus right now. I’m talking about the Pinterest-famous rolling bar cart. These portable parties are perfect for someone (like myself) who wants their home to carry a sense of sophistication while lacking the square-footage for something larger. Step One: buy lots of fancy alcohol that you know you’ll never drink because it’s so pretty. Read on for Step Two.
Next, you need aforementioned bar cart. Target has a stylish wood and brass finish cart that will fit in with nearly any décor you already have. For an easy DIY, spray-paint the legs of this Ikea cart for a similar look for less. Step Three: Start collecting! Sometimes the best finds are the unexpected ones, like the apothecary bottle that caught your eye at an estate sale (or this one on Etsy). These Mr. & Mrs. glasses are on my list as well (which will be official in only five months!) — I plan to fill them with an arrangement of these super-cute party straws. To create some vertical space, a nice lean-to mirror or print is a must, and I ended up printing and framing my own “Pop. Fizz. Clink!” on some nice card stock. For the less tech-savvy, you can purchase one here. No bar cart is complete without a funky corkscrew, and what’s better than a gold mustache to open your wine with? Nothing. If you still need a little something extra pizzaz, a vase of fresh flowers should do the trick.
