5 Races to Celebrate Memorial Day

It’s official: Memorial Day’s three-day weekend proves summer is here. In honor of the holiday, there are several themed races happening around North Texas. So take advantage of your time off and run into the new season.   

Dallas Memorial March 2016

When: Sunday, May 29

Where: Reverchon Park

Spend your Memorial Day weekend reflecting on the true meaning of the holiday. The annual 20-hour Dallas Memorial March hosted by Carry The Load lets Dallas honor military service members while raising money for charity. Head to Reverchon Park near the Katy Trail to either participate in the entire event or just walk for a few minutes.

Unforgotten Heroes Memorial Day Run

When: 8:30 a.m. May 30

Where: Globe Life Park

Venture down to Globe Life Park to take part in the third annual Unforgotten Heroes Memorial Day Run. You can choose to run in the event’s 10K, 5K or 1-mile runs on Monday. Each run supports Chapter 157 of the Disabled American Veterans.

“Run BIG” 1K & 5K

When: 9 a.m. May 30

Where: Nebraska Furniture Mart

For another Monday Memorial Day race, check out the first-ever “Run BIG” 1K & 5K at the Nebraska Furniture Mart. The race is sure to have a big impact on the races’ beneficiary, Cancer Support Community North Texas. Bring out the whole family to enjoy games, music, food, and kid-friendly activities. 

Color Fun Fest 5K & Carnival

When: May 28

Where: Myers Park and Event Center

The Color Run is making its way back to North Texas this Memorial Day weekend. The Myers Park and Event Center will be covered in colorful activities including not only a 5K but also carnival attractions and a massive post-race celebration. Come out in your white racing gear and be prepared to leave full of color.

National Beer Mile

When: noon May 28

Where: Fair Park

Racers and partiers alike will be in Fair Park this Saturday to participate in the National Beer Mile. This mile includes four beer stops, so you will be celebrating through the course. And after you wrap up your mile, you can wlak into the after party stocked with an open bar of beer.
