10 Don’t-Miss March Fitness Events

From dazzling night runs to Parkour break outs, these are the fitness events that will put a spring in your step.

1. Trinity Levee Run
If you love running and scenic sights, you’re in luck. Tackle a chip-timed 5K, 10K, or 1-mile fun run while taking in a sunrise view of the Dallas skyline from the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. Free T-shirts will be provided to the first 2,500 registrants.

When: Saturday, March 7 at 7:45 a.m.

2. Dallas Rhythm and Blues
Don’t worry about running sans tunes at this race. You can jam out during the 5K, quarter marathon or half marathon to the electrifying rhythm of live bands. Dress up and you could come away from the costume contest with some awesome prizes, too.

3. PK Break O.U.T. at Fugitive Fitness
Ever been curious about Parkour, the ninja-esque method of moving around obstacles with efficiency, speed and style? Now is your chance to give it a whirl in a safe, fun environment. You’ll meet adventurous people and have a blast flipping into the foam pit, swinging ring to ring across the gym, or vaulting and striding on an expansive obstacle course. There will be contests with prizes.

When: Sunday, March 8 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

4. Positive Postures
Stand head to knee for charity at Bikram Yoga. One-hundred percent of proceeds from this invigorating class will go toward Girls, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides enrichment programs to girls. The $25 class fee includes mat and towel service.

When:  Tuesday, March 10 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Once the weather returns to normal, also join Bikram Yoga for free yoga in Klyde Warren Park every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. For the month of March, each attendee can register to win a Manduka eQua towel. 

5. Rock n’ Roll Remix Challenge
Eric Hutchinson and other live local bands will be performing mini concerts throughout the race. Cheer and dance squads will also be there to keep your spirits up throughout the race. On Friday and Saturday, there will be a Health and Fitness Expo, a Saturday 5K, a Sunday Half-Marathon or Partner Half Marathon, and a Finish Line Festival with refreshments and more live music. A partnership with the American Textile Recycling Services also gives you an opportunity to ditch a bag of old clothes and shoes at the Expo or unwanted layers right at the start line.

When: Friday, March 20 from 12 to 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

6. Wipeout Run
Laugh yourself silly as you crash, smash, and splash your way through a 5K course sprinkled with obstacles like the Sweeper, Tumble Tubes, Bubble Bash Swing, and the world’s largest inflatable water slide. Bonus: a “need sleep” wave of start times accommodates even those who struggle to rise before 9 a.m. This event is open to anyone 18 and up.

When: Saturday, March 21 between 9 and 10:30 a.m. OR 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

7. Live Well and Be Happy Workshop
Celebrate National Nutrition Month by learning to be a label detective. This workshop, taught by Megan Murden, a Certified Holistic Health and Integrative Nutrition Coach and owner of Happiness by Wellness, will teach you to eat clean. Megan will walk you through how to identify the healthy and unhealthy ingredients and tricky marketing buzzwords on labels. You’ll come away with a sharp eye for healthy eating and a handy shopping guide. The price is $20 for you and a friend.

8. Easter Run
Earn your solid chocolate Easter bunny and Cadbury eggs! The huge positive response to last year’s inaugural Dallas Easter Run has spurred a new downtown tradition. This run’s unique 4-mile distance, family-friendly atmosphere, partnership with Habitat for Humanity, and hot breakfast post party make this one you should hop on now.

When: Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 a.m. (Easter is Sunday, April 5)

9. The Color Run 5K
“The Happiest 5K on the Planet” is back in the Big D. You’ll come in white but leave wearing a rainbow after you are lovingly hit with powder paint at every color station along the course. When you cross the finish line (the race is untimed), continue the fun and add more color to your outfit with a giant Finish Festival with music, dancing, and enormous color throws.

10. Fire Fly Run
Glow in the dark running? That’s right! At this 5k/10k, not only will you race through dusk shimmering in LED lights, but you’ll also benefit the Children’s Medical Center. This dazzling night race is brightened further by a post-race party with live entertainment, amazing visual effects, and a costume contest. Runners and walkers of all speeds and experience are welcome.
