Accomplishing any goal you have in life requires dedication and hard work. We often start with good intentions that keep us motivated and consistent for a short period of time, but unless we hold ourselves accountable, those intentions can fade away quickly!

Here are some ways you can maintain consistent efforts in order to reach your fitness goals.

  1. Hire a trainer. This may sound odd coming from a trainer, but I very rarely ever workout without one. Having my trainer with me means I won’t skip my workouts, won’t skimp on effort or forgo that one last rep or set that makes all the difference. Also, I do not like losing money so I refuse to pay a no-show fee.

  1. Find a workout partner. If your budget doesn’t allow for a trainer find a friend/ co-worker to meet up with at the gym.  It is so easy to talk ourselves out of getting up an hour earlier or stay later to get a work out in. We are full of excuses! If you make a commitment to meet your workout buddy you are far more likely to stick to your plan and reach your goals!

  1. Keep a journal. This one act has changed so much in my life. When I keep track of my workouts or what foods I eat, I become more aware of my body, the physical activity I do, as well as what I consume. I have applied this principle to money as well and WOW! Let’s just say a certain coffee place is missing me!

  1. Buy an activity tracker. There are so many on the market, you just have to decide what is comfortable and what information is important to you. I use the Jawbone UP band. I like that it tracks my sleep (as well as a wrist band can), my steps, and is user friendly. If you are looking to track a more accurate calorie burn, you will need to use a device linked to a heart rate monitor because it will give you the most accurate read. What I love about my UP band is at the end of the day I can see a total read of my steps. It helps me to have visual confirmation of how I’m reaching my goal both in activity and sleep.
