Oftentimes cooking, cleaning, and all our other day-to-day chores get in the way of a real workout. We’ve all been there. And so has Heather Hays. She admits that on her busiest days vacuuming doubles as her exercise routine. Combining your workout routine with your cleaning chores? Genius. Heather is your typical mother-next-door with carpool duties and household chores. The only difference? You can catch her weeknights on Fox 4 News.

D Magazine: If you’ve got only 20 minutes to work out, what’s your routine
Heather Hays: Hmmm. I would try to combine two things I don’t like and get them done at the same time! Cleaning and exercising! Vacuuming burns what? 250 calories?

What’s your typical daily workout routine?
I don’t have the time to work out every day, but if I did I would head straight to Power House of Dance Dallas and work out with amazing trainer Darren Clark. His after-carpool morning boot camp is the best!

What’s your usual breakfast?
6 a.m. comes very early after working the late shift, so I usually do a very simple breakfast (whatever my daughters don’t eat!) Usually it’s oatmeal and fruit (cinnamon spice is our favorite oatmeal!)

What is your go-to cheat meal?
At work: D2. That’s a Reese’s peanut butter cup.

Name a song from your workout playlist.
Kanye West, “Stronger”
